I hope you guys enjoyed yesterday’s interview with Stefanie, the owner of Twinkle Apothecary! If you missed it, check it out here. It was so fun getting to talk to her, learn about her background, and how Twinkle Apothecary was founded. I find that building a connection to a brand and the people who work there, encourage me on this indie beauty journey. Today I want to highlight some of the products I have tried, and most importantly share some of Stefanie’s recommendations for must have products!
I have been using my products from Twinkle Apothecary for the past few weeks and have been so wowed at the scents and wear time! Being able to wear perfume again has been so refreshing! It is hard for me to explain, but there is something so womanly, fun and *dare* I say sexy about wearing perfume. Even the simple blends are alluring, and instantly uplift my mood.
I obviously was excited to try Twinkle Apothecary’s natural perfume. But buying a full size perfume can be intimidating. I wanted to sample some of the fragrances before making a full sized purchase. Twinkle Apothecary makes it simple in that they offer a wide variety of generous sample products to purchase. Sample sizes make it an easy decision to try the perfume, especially when you are not sure it will work (for you) or if you will enjoy the scent. Having the option to sample before you buy, is right up my alley!
Twinkle Apothecary offers 15 different custom fragrances to sample or you can buy a curated sample pack of perfume. I purchased the Sweet Sample Pack fragrance set. I went with a curated pack mostly because I am indecisive, but also I wanted to have a variety to try. I was not disappointed! I was happy with the wear time and the subtle yet bright scents. I have pretty much have been inhaling my wrist all day.
The scents included were:
Basic: Vanilla, orange, lemon and lavender.
Adore: Vanilla, grapefruit, Rose and cedarwood.
Luscious: Jasmine, vanilla, ginger and vetiver.
Duchess: Rose, lavender, chamomile and peppermint.
I know fragrances are personal, but for me I am having a hard time deciding between Adore and Duchess for which full size fragrance I will order. Adore was just a little more vibrant for daily wear, but duchess made me feel, well…like a duchess. The scent is so beautiful! The fragrances are offered in roll-on oil based or spray alcohol based scents. I prefer the roll-on style myself, so I at least have that decision made.
Even if you do not want to purchase a perfume product specifically, most of the body care products can be scented to your fragrance preference. I love the idea of mixing and matching the scents and products to blend your own custom scent!
In addition to the beautiful fragrances Twinkle Apothecary sells, they also sell a variety of facial care and makeup products. I was intrigued by the Lip+Cheek tint and ordered the sample size of the Rose’. *Confession* I have never used a Lip+Cheek combo product before, and I am seriously questioning why? “Why have I never used a combo product before?” The rose’ tint is the perfect hint of pink shimmer for my cheeks, but build-able for my lips too. It is beautifully subtle, and I have not worn another blush product in over two weeks now. This girl is hooked!
Since Twinkle offers a great variety of products, I wanted to get Stefanie’s thoughts on her top products. In part 2 of my interview, Stefanie also gives us a sneak peak at newly launching products below. Check out part 1 here.
Interview with Stefanie, owner of Twinkle Apothecary- Part 2
Amanda: I love following your Instagram and stories, it is so fun watching products being made. Want to give my readers any hints on new products coming to Twinkle Apothecary?
Stefanie: Oh, thank you! That’s really good to know, because I often wonder if I’m actually over-sharing. Running this business by all by myself is awesome, but it can also be a bit isolating. Even though I share a workspace with Siempre Viva clothing now, I’m still by myself for most of the day. Since I’m always super excited about the fun things I do everyday but don’t have anyone around to share it with, I put it on instagram to share with my followers! I feel like I’ve already spilled the beans about a lot of the things I’m working on (again, oversharing!) but I’ve got fragrance collaborations in the works, as well as spring and summer skincare items, and I just quietly released a couple of CBD infused supplements that I’m super excited about. The more I learn, think, make, and talk about beauty, the more I realize that I want to approach it from a holistic, mind-body standpoint – so I hope to be able to share more of the wellness products and supplements that I use to support my entire wellbeing with my customers in the near future.
A: You have a great variety of beauty products. If a customer could only buy 3 products, which 3 would you recommend?
S: I would recommend:
- Deodorant – which seems to be the most difficult clean beauty switch to make for most people, but I think it’s an important one. To me, it’s less about avoiding all of the potentially harmful ingredients found in conventional antiperspirants, (which, for the record, I do think should be avoided!) and more about learning to understand and appreciate how your body is meant to function. Humans were meant to sweat – it’s how we avoid dying from heat exhaustion. But we’re so used to applying antiperspirants that feeling any kind of wetness feels wrong and bad and dirty – which, to feel that way about a normal bodily function is kind of messed up, right? For me, it’s been very empowering to say, “You know what? I am human, and it’s good to be alive and able to work hard. Sometimes I get sweaty, and that’s OK!” Then I apply more of my lovely scented natural deodorant and feel pretty and fresh again, and get back to work. No big deal.
- Natural fragrances – this might sound silly to a lot of people – but I feel that my essential oil perfumes are life changing. Stepping away from synthetic fragrances opens up your nose (and your mind) to a whole world of real plant smells that have so much more depth than what we are used to – even if they don’t last all day long. (Why do we need them to last all day anyway? I never quite understood that completely made-up measure of quality we attach to personal fragrance!) Taking a moment to apply a perfume at the beginning of the day, or throughout the day, and then being aware of the top, middle, and base notes that you’re experiencing, is a simple way to add more mindfulness your routine, and it feels really good to know that instead of inhaling potentially toxic chemicals, you’re actually, physically, getting in touch with nature. Basically, more nature is always better, in my opinion. 🙂
- A powder or oil-based facial cleanser – When I first started Twinkle Apothecary, I had no intention of getting into skincare, but that all changed when I realized that I could make an incredibly effective facial mask out of the ingredients I already had on hand to make my deodorant! I feel like my skin changed for the better from the very first time I tested my powdered facial cleanser + masque. I haven’t washed my face with anything else (besides my facial oils and balm) since. It turns out that soap and foaming facial cleansers can destroy all of the protective oil and good bacteria on your skin, which leaves you in this cycle of being either too dry or too oily all of the time. If you have oily or combination skin like me, the thought of not “washing” your face can seem a bit scary at first, but I promise that if you give it a chance you’ll find that your skin is way more balanced. I’ll admit that I was a bit skeptical about oil cleansing at first too, but the more I do it, the better my skin looks.
My wishlist for my next purchase is ever growing. Shortly after my order Twinkle Apothecary released their face whip, which is a cross between a balm, face cream and primer. I am dying to get my hands on this!
